Coach handbag sales take hit, stock slumps (Reuters)
“Coach Inc on Wednesday reported weak holiday-quarter results and unveiled a new strategy for shoes and clothing, spooking investors with the notion that the days of strong demand for its premium leather handbags may be numbered.”

And Precisely So (NY Times)
“The designers are learning to use the extraordinary skills of a couture atelier to be more self-critical and demanding. In just two seasons at Dior, Mr. Simons has used its workrooms to further his ideas and expand his thinking. Mr. Lagerfeld is miles ahead of everyone.”

Italy’s shoemaker Tod’s 2012 sales meet expectations (Reuters)
“Italy’s luxury shoemaker Tod’s said on Wednesday sales rose 7.8 percent in 2012 to 963.1 million euros ($1.28 billion), helped by a good performance in Greater China.”

Small Gestures, Big Statements (NY Times)
“A contrarian like Ms. Kawakubo isn’t likely to share the same values and objectives of a designer at a big brand — again, that’s a virtue of the Paris shows. There is freedom of expression, as well as a growing concern to make sure there is no disconnect between the image of a company and the integrity of the products it sells.”

Vogue Retains Top Spot in March (Adweek)
“Among the highly scrutinized March fashion magazines, Condé Nast’s Vogue is holding on to its usual first place, with 457 ad pages, up 4.5 percent from 2012. Archrival Time Inc.’s InStyle weighed in with 361 pages, a 4 percent increase over last year. At Hearst, Elle, as previously reported, came in third at 338 pages, up 6 percent.”
